Saxophonist, composer and educator Tristan Weitkamp is a native of the Pacific Northwest but his interest in multicultural music has taken him to Cape Town, South Africa. After studying music at the Portland State University School of Music in Portland, Oregon, he moved to Cape Town for a year in search of new musical influences and inspirations. While abroad, Tristan studied African music and global affairs at the University of Cape Town and the South African School of Music. He also performed with African musicologist and performer Dizu Plaatjies, as well as South African accordion, guitar and trumpet player Tony Cedras.
As saxophonist, composer, and producer Tristan released his debut album ‘Flash in the Pan’ in 2015. Recorded in Cape Town the album featured Tristan’s compositions and arrangements as well as a host of Cape Town musicians.
